Klaas Heimans – judoka & elite athlete

I am a Dutch judoka and elite athlete, born in 2010. Judo has been central to my life since I was four years old. What started as a game in Heemstede has grown into a serious elite sports career with national and international successes.

The club where I train is Topjudo Kenamju, which is known as a very driven club where fun and hard training go hand in hand. Topjudo Kenamju has already brought several judokas to the top. My big dream is to become a judo world champion and perform at the highest international level.

I started judo in Heemstede with Martin Overbosch. At the age of six, I made the switch to the competition team in Haarlem. Not long after, my first official competitions followed. In recent years, I have been competing at the top level of Dutch youth football. I participate in competitions in the Netherlands and Europe and have achieved multiple podium finishes at strong national and international judo tournaments.

The goal is to be selected by the Dutch Judo Federation to participate in the European Cadet Cups (ECCs) on behalf of the Netherlands. During these top tournaments, I want to compete against the best judokas in Europe. These competitions are officially registered with the International Judo Federation (IJF).

My ambitions extend beyond Europe. With daily training, international experience, and professional guidance, I work towards the absolute world elite every day, with Japan as the ultimate dream country for every judoka.

Training, elite sport & school

I train daily and also do strength training several times a week. I am guided by various experienced trainers who together contribute to my technical, physical, and mental development as an elite athlete.

Besides sport, school is of course also important. I attend Mendel College, where elite sport is actively supported. This allows me to combine training, internships, and (international) tournaments with school, as long as my academic results remain at a high level.
